While playdates and playgrounds may be out for the time being, getting outside and enjoy some fresh air is so important—for both you and the kids! Here’s are 20 fun ways to spend some time outdoors.

  1. Create a obstacle course and try and beat your best times.
  2. Raining out? No problem. Swallow your urge to say no and let your kids go puddle jump!
  3. Search for rocks, then paint some kindness rocks. This is a two parter, because then you can go for a walk and spread the kindness around!
  4. Go for a family hike and search for things that start with each letter of the alphabet.
  5. It may not be swimming weather, but you can still bring some buckets and hit the beach to explore.
  6. Create a sensory scavenger hunt in your backyard.
  7. Bubbles! Enough said!
  8. Put your kids to work. Have them pick up all the sticks in your yard for a reward.
  9. Create a masterpiece in your driveway with chalk.
  10. Have a family soccer or T-ball game.
  11. Play outdoor Bingo.
  12. Play classic games like Red Light, Green Light, Red Rover, and Hide and Seek.
  13. When it’s warm enough out, let your kids wash your car.
  14. Let the kids stay up a little late and play flashlight tag.
  15. Make homemade bird feeders out of pine cones, peanut butter, and birdseed.
  16. Lay out an old sheet or giant paper and paint outside using hands, feet, and outdoor objects.
  17. Play hopscotch.
  18. Bring some of your indoor stuff outside and build a fort.
  19. Play freeze dance or just have a dance party.
